CET Exam 2019
CET is the ‘Common Eligibility Test’, which SSC (Staff Selection Commission) will conduct in February 2019. This exam was proposed in the Rajya Sabha on 14th March 2018. The idea behind this exam is to hold one Common Eligibility Test i.e CET for recruitment to multiple exams like SSC, Bank & Railways.
Government of India plans to introduce this Common Eligibility Test (CET) to shortlist candidates for the post of Group ‘B’ (Non-Gazetted) and below Group B level posts in different departments. All in all, this will be one common exam for recruitment to SSC, Bank and Railways.
CET Exam Date
Official CET exam dates are not out yet. A lot of information and details (like CET exam dates, CET exam pattern, CET syllabus, CET admit card, etc.) related to CET are yet to be worked out. However, as per Rajya Sabha Report, the first CET exam will be conducted in February 2019.
CET Exam Pattern
The CET exam pattern that is proposed is tentative. After the implementation of CET exam, the pattern of government exam recruitment will change. In fact, the entire recruitment system in India will be revamped and rationalized in 2 stages, namely
1. Tier-I – CET
A Common Screening Test will be conducted in place of the Preliminary Tier-I examinations conducted by all recruiting bodies of the Government of India, i.e. SSC, Railways, Banking, etc;
2. Tier-II – SSC, Bank or Railways
After you clear the CET Tier I exam, you qualify to appear in the Main Exam or Tier II exam of SSC, Bank exam or Railways. The Tier II will be conducted independently by the concerned exam conducting bodies
Advantages of SSC CET Exam
SSC CET will have few major advantages which can be summed up below:
CET will reduce the number of exams conducted by various exam conducting bodies.
This will save significant amount of money spent on conducting these examinations by different recruiting agencies.
It is possible that CET scores may be further used by State Governments in future if they desire to use it for short-listing candidates for employing them.
The CET can curb corruption and scams to a great extent.
Challenges of SSC CET
Though CET is a major initiative taken by the Indian Government, yet there are few challenges that the exam may have to face after the process gets implemented.
The major challenge in conducting the CET will be the exam pattern & syllabus. As this will be a common exam for SSC, Banking, RRB etc. then there will be big difficulty in following a single syllabus & pattern and deciding a standard pattern for CET.
As it is estimated that there will a Graduate Level CET in February 2019, but the candidates who are aiming to appear for the exams during that year don’t know which exam pattern & syllabus to follow.
There is uncertainty about whether the CET will be qualifying or its marks will be added in the Mains exam & final score.
Rajya Sabha Report on CET
Indian Govt. has come out with a proposal of conducting a Common Eligibility Test (CET) for various govt. Exams like SSC, Railways, Banking etc.
This will help the students in applying & attempting various exams for different jobs.
According to this latest proposal, the CET will be a Primary Test for various departments in Indian Govt. exams.
However, the Mains Stage will be carried out by the respective departments separately.
